The Arrival

After approximately 20 hours in airports and on airplanes and a last-minute re-routing we arrived in Copenhagen last night to find that our bags were not so lucky. Thus, most of our day so far has been sorting out a Danish cellphone and communicating with the airline who have still yet to even locate our bags, let alone determine if or when they will on their way to us.

All this aside, we have already been in touch with our main NGO contact and will be heading out in a few moments to meet up with some of the team and get started. As things begin to kick into gear, I am anticipating that the next two weeks are going to be pretty non-stop, which is great! Tomorrow morning will be our first day volunteering with Klimaforum09, which is expecting up to 10,000 delegates a day.

COP15 is everywhere in this city, as one might expect, from the billboards at the airport and on the metro, to the volunteers stationed strategically around the main areas of the city. It is somewhat surprising the intense political nature of most of the advertisements. There is one campaign that features world leaders under a caption that reads "Year 2020" next to a quote stating something along the lines of "I'm sorry. We could have stopped the world climate catstrophe, but we didn't". A strong statement about the future we're headed for if these negotiations are unsuccessful.
